My Baking Freezer!!

I thought I would show you what my freezer looks like! Pathetic isn’t it! Meijer had a HUGE sale this past weekend, you could get 10 cake mixes for $10 with the 11th free. So why not stock up? The ad also applied to real butter and the tubs of frosting. I don’t like the flavor of the tubs of frosting–but for my cupcake a day–the kids really don’t mind it at all–and it’s just the bottom layer–you can’t really decorate with it, unless you add a TON of powdered sugar–Oh, that was on sale too–but I won’t bore you with a pantry shot!! You can see the little tub of cupcakes in front. I only bake cupcakes once a month, and then freeze them. I bring them out one at a time to decorate daily. It’s much easier that way!

We are still moving in so there is a ton of stuff piled on the chest freezer in the garage, and it’s too cold to clear it off. I better do it as soon as Spring hits, or it will be too hot to clear it off! As soon as it’s clear–baking essentials moves to that freezer and out of my kitchen!

Romantic Trip Cakes!!

The first week of November will mark one year since the hubby and I found ourselves in a vegas hotel. It was such a fun weekend away from the kids (our first) that I’ve wanted to plan the same thing every year, but in different places. I was looking into Boston this year, but we just can’t afford it for Veteran’s Day weekend. So I’m thinking of saving up through Christmas, and giving him a ‘get a way’ as his gift. Since we are talking January or February now, I’m thinking the Vegas heat sounds the most inviting!!

Even At The Toy Store

Did you know they sell dog and cat supplies at the toy store? Honestly…there was a whole section of just cute puppy/kitty stuff. From pillows and beds to blingy collars and t-shirts. My kids were the most excited about picking a cute little costume for our own puppy. But still, it was something I would have imagined finding in a department store or even just a pet store, but nope…they are even at the toy store!

A Great Cake Idea

I was watching an amazing wedding cake show tonight, and aside from one of the ladies needing the best acne treatment available…I was amazed by some of the cute cakes. There was one where they took a normal cake stand and covered them in 190 individual mini cakes. One for each guest. I think, aside from the time it would take to create them, it would be so fun to try to create this amazing little structure on my own. Definitely something I would like to try!

Natural Light vs Flash Photography

I wish I had better lighting in my kitchen when I take pictures of my cakes. They really are not the best photo’s, and I feel bad, because they take a darn lot of work–but I don’t get to see it in print that way. I currently have to use the flash, and that isn’t my favorite thing because it messes up the photo. I’d prefer the use of natural light, but there just isn’t much available. We did just by two big beautiful lamps in the family room, I may just have to steal them for my photos!

Jake’s “Possible” Cake

My husband is not a huge fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles, but my sons are. Jake’s birthday is coming up and I think I’m going to try to make him a Harley cake. I don’t know if I’ll sculpt out all of the Harley parts or if I will just recreate the cool Harley logo on the top of a sheet cake. Either way, it would be cool—one’s just a little harder than the other. I’ll have to put a photo up of the final cake.

Hmmmmmm

We have friends that recently went through a divorce. It’s a sad thing, but what is so strange is that the man has become really close with the neighbors surrounding their old house. He even took a vacation to the Outer Banks. Not that this is a strange thing altogether, but he went on vacation with to couples and their kids. How awkward would it be to go alone and hang out with two other families…or was he alone??
