Feeling Better??

My husband has been put on Cymbalta. It’s an anti-depressant, but they’ve given it to him to try to help with his nerve pain. He isn’t enjoying some of the side effects he’s having. He’s got zero appetite and still feels a bit jittery, like you do when you take cheap, over the counter diet pills. Today, day 4, he did have a little better appetite and was able to eat a little something. Yesterday, he only had a chicken finger all day long, and he couldn’t eat anymore.

Jake’s got a big party coming up, and I hope he’ll feel better by then…he’s got some Laser Tag to dominate at!

Holiday Travel Plans!

Do you leave town for the holidays? We’ve gone home to Utah once, and even surprised my mother in law one Christmas. This year my kids have a week off for Thanksgiving and I was hoping to head off for some quality family time. My husband’s boss has some beautiful Wilmington NC real estate, and we’ve never been that far south…but for this holiday I’m really thinking that if we aren’t going to see my mom, than I think we’ll just hang around with the family for now. There are three weeks off at Christmas, so that might be the better time for a little getaway.

Where do you go to spend time with your family? Anywhere exotic?

Designer Cake Ideas!!

What a GREAT cake idea! Who thought of making cake shaped like Manolo Blahniks?? I thought I was being so clever! Dani’s birthday is coming up and I was thinking either designer handbags (she’s a Coach girl) or these awesome shoes…and someone’s already beaten me to it! Back to the drawing boards on this cake!!

I don’t have a cake for January, so if anyone out there needs something in January…let me know!  I’m totally free!  February will be crazy, but I’ve got a wide open month!

Blossoms In Sugar!!

This last spring I was really excited to find that we had Plum trees in our yard. You’d think one would know, but honestly, I’m clueless! I was so excited to cut a clipping of blossoms to try to copy them in sugar. I haven’t done it yet…best laid plans, eh?? But hey, there is always next year…or so I thought! Now Mr. Man has decided that he is tired of the fruit falling off of the tree onto his car in the driveway. The kids love to have fights with it, and most of it gets squashed on the driveway. Apparently it’s a huge attraction for flies in the early morning hours when he’s heading off to work. So for his own sanity, my beautiful tree is getting cut down…and so are my dreams of copying the blossoms in sugar. Ah, the shame!

Jake’s Cake Is This Week!!

I have been up to my ears in cake lately! I know, what a sad problem to have, eh?? This next week I have a birthday cake for my oldest and I can’t wait to dig my fingers into it. I love to sit at the table, watching a good movie on the computer while I work on the cake. Sure, it isn’t home theater seating, but it really does make the time fly by! I’m hoping some good movies come out for rental in the next few days so I can stock up.

Jake wants an electric guitar, black with flames. I want it to look better than that blue guitar up at the top of the blog…but you know, even though there are some problems with the blue one, it still looked really cool. I’m glad Jake finally gets a really cool cake!

The Most Fabulous Find!!

For those of you still reading this lame cake blog…yeah, I know…you know that I LOVE the look of fondant but hate the taste.  The cake I’m working on this weekend will need A LOT of fondant, and that puppy isn’t cheap!  Expensive and yucky??  Why pay for it!  So last night in my quest to find a recipe for homemade fondant, I found a recipe for Marshmallow Fondant.  It not only costs a fraction of what normal fondant costs…it’s YUMMY!  I made three batches of it and it’s currently in the fridge.  I will work with it later tonight and color it, but I will let you know how it works compared to real fondant, because I’m telling you, I could have eaten it all night!

Since it isn’t my recipe, I would rather not paste it here, but if you are interested head on over to Peggy’s site, the recipe for this fabulous fondant, and so many more yummy sounding cake fixings.  You’ll find her at Whats Cooking America

Shhhhhh, This Is My Next Cake!!

I can’t make him stand up.  But I could make it so the cake tilts-so he’s kinda upright!  Otherwise, he’s just lying down!

Snugglin’ Down

We are getting really close to the time of year when we pull out the heated blanket. I know, that sounds strange for me because I sleep year round with a fan on my face. But how awesome is it to get into a toasty warm bed after a long day? Even if you are just going to chill while you watch TV, it’s my favorite thing. Especially when my little munchkins snuggle down with me for a few moments. Those are the best! In fact, I’m going to leave you now to spend a few minutes with my chitlins before they head to bed…I’ll fill you in on this weeks cake tomorrow!!

The Job For The Week!

This week I have to be looking into health insurance options for my family. I wish it was as easy as finding North Carolina health insurance, but there are just so many options out there. My son has scoliosis, and we haven’t had the opportunity to get him in to get it looked at and fixed. I’m worried he’s going to need a backbrace, which means, I’m going to need some really good coverage. I need blood tests for an auto immune disorder, and my husband is permanently broken. So wish me luck, as I try to find something that not only fits our familiy…but our budget as well!
