I have been trying to think of something fun for my husband for our anniversary. This year is number 12, and honestly, I’m not even sure I’ll be in town. If I am around, I thought t would be fun to set up a cute table in the corner of his parking lot (he’s a Chef) and having a quick candle lit dinner before sending him back to his restaurant. I don’t know if I’d rather shower him in sports gifts or some ’summer attire’, but if I know my man…he’s hoping I shower him in a Blu-Ray!!
I had a cake due yesterday for a surprise 30th birthday. It was my first cake for someone else, paid for by someone else, and completely up to me! Do you know how stressful that is? I am NOT a major cake maker. I just like to have a little fun, and if someone wants a cake, I either want to make it how they want it, or I want to capture them in some form.
This cake yesterday was for a girl I’ve known through my husband, and that is all. So I contacted a mutual friend to get more of an idea for her. Turns out, she LOVES poker. So I started planning a poker cake, and then it hit me. I needed a hexagon pan. I hit THREE separate stores, and did not find one…but OH MY ACHING FEET!!
Sadly I wore my heels as I rushed through store after store, and at the end of the day I’m dying! So I will be looking into some Ecco shoes! Since cake decorating is all about being on your feet, I’m gonna need some good shoes!
However, let me just show you my cake!!

Tax Day and finding affordable auto insurance, how’s that for the errands of the day! Tax day usually isn’t anything special around here, we’ve already filed our taxes, gotten our return and everything. And then wouldn’t you know it, March 31st rolls around and I get a 1099 in the mail! So it was an amended return I was filing today. WHAT A PAIN IN THE KEISTER!!
What was nice, I hadn’t entered our medical payments the first time around–so they balanced the amount out, and we actually get an addition $248 more! We’ll definitely get that in the mail today!
Do you keep track of the blog over at Cakewrecks? OH MY HEAVENS! It’s amazing! Honestly, who knew there was a cake that would be appropriate to give to someone going in for their first Colonix!!

In my family, we have a long history of colon cancer. Because of this, we are the ones getting a colonoscopy every single year!! Now, the next time one of the family members head in to the doctor…I’m making them this!! I’m not sure if I’ll actually mold these things out of fondant…or if I’ll just throw down some Vienna Sausage and calling it good. What do you think?
Last Wednesday night we took the kids to a local movie theater. Amazingly enough, this wasn’t your ordinary theater. First off…we sat on swivel chairs (like I’m sitting in now at my computer). I’m not used to sitting on office furniture in a movie theater, but even beyond that, there was one more unique (and SUPER COOL) thing…it’s like a restaurant. You are literally ordering at your seat, and your server brings you your food, refills, popcorn…everything…all throughout the movie. It was so fun!
We watched Race To Witch Mountain, and as much as I loved the earlier ones, this one was really cute. The kids all loved it. So that made it that much better! Of course, dessert at Cold Stone afterwards was sooooooo much better!
I have been looking into additional disability insurance these past few days. My husband was injured at work nearly over 5 years ago, and had we not had the disability insurance…we would be toast! Currently he has minimal coverage at work, and you know, I’m hoping we’ll never have to use it. But from past experience, I’m really worried about not having enough coverage.
He’s done really well over the past 5 years, but he lives in pain 24 hours a day. I just know there is another shoe just waiting to drop!! Better to be prepared than sorry!
Have you seen the amazing new “diaper cakes”? They look like multi-tiered wedding cakes, but made from disposable diapers. When my second child was born, a dear friend gave me a really simple diaper cake, and even then, in their first incarnation….it was so cute, and so clever! However, the ones these days are huge, and multi-level and intricate. I haven’t made one yet…but before this year is out, I would like to at least try. But enough about my thoughts….what do you think?

Have you heard the saying, “Never trust a skinny chef”? Well, I think the same bodes true for cake decorators! Honestly, what decorator doesn’t at least sample their products? We do have a couple of sweets around the house from time to time and I think people who look at my oldest boy would probably think that his weight issues relate to that. They would be wrong. My boy is just a little round, but honestly nothing out of the ordinary for his age group. I’ve looked into HGH products in the past, but really have never purchased anything because he still has a ton of growing to go through.
He just tends to grow out before he grows up, so I’m hoping it’s just a matter of time!
My mother in law has a dear friend that is slowly dying. This past week she was added to the Hospice program, but has truly been fighting this cancer for almost 12 years. I’m not sure what they do for Mesothelioma treatment, but this poor woman has suffered for so long.
As sad as it is to see her failing, after such a struggle it’s really hard not to be so excited for her! She’s almost done. And yes, she’ll miss so much time with her kids and her grandkids, and that is the heartbreak. But you know what, she’s also so sick and so miserable that she is truly deserving of the peace and rest that she will find soon.
Still—-it’s just so sad!
