In all of this yummy cakedom, I have to admit—I wish there was a simple fat burner that would kick my butt while I sat on it icing cakes! Wouldn’t that be cool! I wouldn’t even mind sitting on a stationary cycle and pedaling away the pounds as I worked. We are taking a LONG road trip soon, and how cool would it be to have to pedal a portion of the drive. Like a Moped, but in a car. That would be not only great dietary and health wise–but think of how environmentally friendly it would be, not to mention gas saving! Hmmmmmmmm, I bet I could get a government grant for that one!
My youngest son’s birthday is the week before Halloween. By the time you move his party back to the weekend, it’s usually right on Halloween. So every year I end up sending out Halloween party invitations for his birthday. I think it’s kind of a fun tradition to have the kids come in costume and play fun Halloween games, but he is turning 5 this year, and I’m just curious if this may be getting a little old to him. Of course, he’s still young enough to want to go to Chuck E Cheese…but I’m just not THAT young anymore!
But check out his fun first birthday…even his cake came in costume!

Look at his little, fuzzy, one year old head on the side of the picture. Cute baby!
We have been in the market for a new car for the past couple of months. We need one that not only fits the family, but that can double as the “delivery truck” when I have a cake order going out. We’ve looked at everything and although my husband has his mind set on a mini van, I’m really starting to look at the Hyundai Sante Fe or Tucson. Not only are they super cute little mini SUVs, but they have an incredible extended service plan on top of the bumper to bumper warranty.
I really don’t need that huge of a car, and mini van’s are nice. But hey, is it bad to want to drive something cute and sporty???
My in laws are moving into the home that we just moved out of. And although it was way too small for the 6 of us, I think it will be a lovely size for the 2 of them. It is an older home, and they are not the most excited about moving. So, being the dutiful daughter in law that I am, I was trying to think of a fun housewarming gift for them. Something fun, unique and definitely something they would use. Something like a Capresso expresso machine comes to mind first. But lets face it–these two aren’t teenagers any more and I’m wondering if the huge jump in caffeine intake will somehow back fire on their health! So then I’m just left with a cute frame with pictures of the grandbabies in it. Which would you choose?
I have spent the last week “Spring Cleaning”. Now I know, we are in the throes of summer, so I’m just a little late. But it needed to be done, life can’t be all cakes!! As I was sitting on my rear end pulling out all of the junk the kids brought home on the last day of school (many trees lost their lives for that last day of school!!) I found my daughters heart pendant necklace. It’s one we got for her on her last birthday day at Libby Lou, and again, it’s just her.
It’s a heart with a princess crown on top, and the whole thing is outlined in little pink gems. She was so excited to see it again. Being 6, she had no idea where she’d lost it. Aren’t mom’s grand!
I just “re-found” a blogging friend of mine. She’s amazing, and she lives in Hawaii. Or so I thought! During my interim “non-blogging” coma, she moved. She moved to Texas! How do you do that? I always used to think that moving companies New York had it the worst, have you seen NYC traffic? And their skinny little busy streets? How do moving trucks maneuver through? BUT…I was wrong! How in the world do you move from Hawaii to Texas? How do you get your car across the ocean and delivered to you? Not even cars alone. How about your pet puppy? Do you have to buy him an airline ticket?
I hope she find life in Texas to be wonderful…but if it were me…I’d be missing Hawaii pretty quick!
We had some really bad weather here the past couple of weeks. It’s been a really strange, cool (temperature wise) summer thus far. Not that I’m complaining mind you–it’s just odd. A few weeks ago we had to go on a scavenger hunt for our patio furniture covers and pool toys. During one of the storms, the wind picked them up and carried them away. Our house is surrounded by tall hedges so we found all of the covers and some of the pool towels pretty quick. However, the blow up toys took flight. As much as my kids liked the floating dolphin toy or the basketball hoop…I’m not thinking we’ll ever see them again!
We were supposed to have a BBQ today for the 4th, and the weather is actually cooperating. I may just have to send the Mister to Target to pick up a few more pool toys!
We took the kids out for a “family evening” last week. We went to Dave & Busters and as fun as it was, it was mighty expensive! On the way home we needed to stop for puppy food at Walmart and I found that they had all of their school supplies on their super bargain sale. Honestly, if I could have stolen their barcode scanner I couldn’t have made the prices any lower! I bought everything the kids need for school next month and for three kids going full time to school (no Kindergarten this year) it was $55 dollars! How amazing is that? If you haven’t started your school shopping, this is the week to get to Walmart!
It was this time last year that we were planning a baby shower for our nephew. We just got an invitation in the mail for her 1st birthday party. My oh my how time flies! We’ve never gotten to meet this cute little girl, since she lives in San Diego with her family, but we are hoping to fly out later this summer or early fall and spend some time with all of them.
In a few weeks I have a new cake order. This one is giving me a bit of stress. It’s three pretty big cakes with embroidery piping all over it. I’m excited to get started….but still just a little nervous. I will be practicing this baby for a few weeks before I actually lay it on the cake. It’s for my husband’s best friend, which means I’m practically donating it—but any opportunity to get to do a cake–is a good one!
I have one last cake to make tonight. It’s full of all sorts of puppy goodness! What you’ve never heard of using dog supplies to make a cake? It’s actually super healthy for them–but all dressed up like a birthday cake.
This is the one I made for my puppy’s first birthday…

It has wet puppy food in it; Strained chicken baby food; and the candle on top is a “Pupperoni” stick. My dogs like to eat people food but I had never seen them so excited about food cooking than this. They got to lick the empty baby food jars clean, and I even have a photo of them licking their side of the rubber spatula. They seemed to know that this cake was all theirs!!
